Radiation Protection for Non-Radiographers
For everyone who works near imaging equipment without being trained in it.

Program overview
Theatre staff, cardiac catheter laboratory teams, dental staff, orthopaedic teams and ward nurses are routinely exposed to ionising radiation without ever receiving radiation protection training — which is written for radiographers. This course covers the essentials for everyone else: how radiation causes harm, dose and its measurement, justification and optimisation, the practical trio of time, distance and shielding, scatter behaviour in an operating theatre, protection during mobile and fluoroscopic imaging, pregnancy, and dosimetry.
Why this program
Written for the staff radiation training usually skips
Scatter behaviour taught practically
Covers theatre, cath lab, dental and ward mobile imaging
Includes pregnancy and dosimetry
Who it is for
Program objectives
- Explain how ionising radiation causes biological harm
- Describe dose quantities and typical exposures in context
- Apply the principles of justification and optimisation
- Use time, distance and shielding effectively
