Nursing and allied health programmes turn away tens of thousands of qualified applicants annually, and a leading constraint is the shortage of people able to precept and teach clinically. Yet almost no short course exists for it. This course covers the preceptor role: assessing a learner's starting point, structuring learning within real clinical work, effective questioning, giving feedback that changes practice, assessing competence defensibly, managing the struggling or failing learner, and protecting patient safety while someone learns.
