Clinical Audit from Start to Finish
Measure care against the standard, find the gap, make a change and prove it worked.

What is Clinical Audit from Start to Finish?
Clinical audit is a quality improvement cycle that compares actual practice against agreed standards, makes changes where gaps exist and re-audits to confirm improvement. Done well, it gives teams objective evidence about the care they deliver. This course follows the full audit cycle: choosing a topic, setting criteria and standards, designing a data collection tool, sampling, analysing and presenting results, agreeing actions and re-auditing. You complete an audit plan for a topic in your own area.

Questions people ask
What is the difference between audit and research?
Audit measures current practice against existing standards. Research generates new knowledge about what the best practice should be.
Does a clinical audit need ethics approval?
Usually not, but audits should be registered according to your organisation's clinical governance process.
How big should my sample be?
The course gives practical guidance on sample sizes that are realistic for busy teams yet meaningful.
Can residents use this for their training portfolio?
Yes. Many training programmes expect trainees to complete an audit, and this course walks you through one.
